Buckingham Parkrun

Latest news – updated 27 April …..

The club has arranged to participate in a trial Parkrun on Thursday 1st May, and this has now been set to start at 7.30pm, so the committee has decided NOT to have a normal run. Club members should have registered and got themselves a barcode if they want to have a recorded time. People can run without a barcode, but they will not get a time.

The run starts from the skate park beside Gandertons.

The inaugural Parkrun will take place on Saturday 17th May at 9am.

Chris, Laura and Alex volunteered at the Aylesbury Parkrun on Saturday 22nd March in order to gain experience for the forthcoming Buckingham Parkrun (see below). They each took on a particuar role – Chris timing, Laura distributing tokens and Alex scanning bar codes – thus extending the expertise of the club in helping run the event in the future.

Terry, Alex, Laura and Chris met up with Glen Turner after the Winslow 10k to discuss the setting up of a Parkrun in Buckingham.

Arrangements are at an advanced stage and the first Buckingham parkrun is likely to be in the late Spring. Alex and Chris have volunteereed to be Race Directors – this role involves setting up the course and supervising volunteers on the day. There are about 6 Race Directors who have already put themselves forward and the intention is that they will have to take responsibility on 6 or 7 occasions each year.

However, the parkrun depends on volunteers to help everything run smoothly and hopefully club members will be willing to fulfil some role or other every now and then. And when you’re not doing this, perhaps you’ll simply turn up and run!?

The course starts near the skateboard park by Gandertons and goes round Bourton Park with two loops round the park – exactly the route that Mark R measured out for our 5k time trials.

Before everything starts though, a trial run or two will be necessary and the club has offered to participate in this and Glen has agreed to hold this on a Thursday club night, so watch out for details soon – this will probably be in late April. If required a second trial run will be held possibly on a Saturday afternoon.

For those of us who travel to Milton Keynes, Aylesbury or Northampton every Saturday morning, a Buckingham Parkrun will save us much time and money.
