Run the Claydons race report

On Sunday 12th July Run the Claydons held their first event a 7 mile multi terrain run starting and ending at Claydon House taking in Middle, East and Botolph Claydon.

Due to so many other events being held on the same day the turn out was small. However Buckingham and Stowe Running Club were well represented by Emily, Linda, Jane K, Nat and Heidi.

The race was going well until just after the 3 mile point when some loggers working in the woods left a gate open causing many runners to go the wrong way. However, Linda, Jane, Nat and Heidi along with another runner and the tail runner seemed to take the most dramatic detour adding an extra mile and a half (!) to their total distance. Doing a detour through the woods and over a few fields an SOS call was placed in to race HQ and finally they were back on the course.

The route was lovely with some stunning scenery, a field full of cows and lots of laughing along the way. At the end runners were given a medal, water and a Mars bar.

I’m sure that as long as the loggers closed the gate after themselves next year we would all happily do it again. A great event lets hope they are able to do it again next year with a few more runners taking part.
