Name: Chris Usher

Age: 63

Occupation: Retired teacher – I now fit kitchens and bathrooms (among other things!)

Where you were born? Worcester

Do you have any children? Two lovely daughters – Laura and Leonie – have to say that because they’ll probably be reading this, both club members.

How long have you been a member of the club? About 2 years

Why do you enjoy running? Keeps me fit and trim – nice and cheap – don’t need to organise a team or opponent – love running through the countryside – good way to de-stress

What have been your running highs and lows? Highs: London Marathon in 1982 – beat Jimmy Saville, but that’s no longer anything to brag about!

Lows: Being injured for much of 2014. Near death experience after collapsing with heatstroke at end of MK marathon in September 1986 (very hot day and few drink stations – things have improved since, though not due to me!).

Name a piece of running kit you can’t live without? Vaseline – forget to apply it and I end up walking like John Wayne

What is your biggest running achievement? The London Marathon 1982 in 3hours 44 minutes; Helping develop the Club

What do you hope to achieve this year? Get the club Gold Standard by running a marathon – my wife told me not to do it, so that settled matters.

Do you listen to music when you run, if so what do you like? Born to Run – Bruce Springstein; Running Up That Hill – Kate Bush!! Also, Rory Gallagher, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin etc.

What is your post run treat? Strong black coffee and a hug from the missus.

Any other hobbies or interests? Spurs season ticket holder; reading; skiing; walking (makes a change from running); gardening; DIY; listening to my wife.

Do you have an interesting fact about yourself? I asked my wife, Pat, to tell me what to mention, but she couldn’t think of anything, so what chance do I have? I am a member of the “92 Club” – having watched a match at every one of the current football league clubs- only 1000 people have done this!
